How Large Does n Have to Be for Z and t Intervals ?

چکیده
Students invariably ask the question \How large does n have to be for Z and t intervals to give appropriate coverage probabilities?" In this article we review the role of p 1 (X)= p n, where p 1 (X) is the skewness coeecient of the random sample, in the answer to this question. We also comment on the opposite eeect that p 1 (X) has on the behavior of t intervals compared to Z intervals. Finally, we suggest a simple exercise for determining rules of thumb for n that result in appropriate conndence interval coverage.

History and Provenance of the “Chinese” Calendar in the Z?j-i ?lkh?n?
This article sheds light upon a “Chinese” calendar described in the Z?j-i ?lkh?n?. In previous studies, some characteristics of the calendar were ascribed to the “Uighurs” However, I will show that it was not originally associated with the Uighur. This “Chinese” calendar was brought to Iran by the Chinese Taoist Fu Mengchi who accompanied his ruler Hülegü. Fu Mengchi informed Nas?r al-D?n T?s? ...
متن کاملBayesian Prediction Intervals for Future Order Statistics from the Generalized Exponential Distribution
Let X1, X2, ..., Xr be the first r order statistics from a sample of size n from the generalized exponential distribution with shape parameter θ. In this paper, we consider a Bayesian approach to predicting future order statistics based on the observed ordered data. The predictive densities are obtained and used to determine prediction intervals for unobserved order statistics for one-sample ...
متن کاملA Note on Teaching Large–Sample Binomial Confidence Intervals
This paper addresses the question of which large–sample binomial confidence interval method to teach in elementary courses. Recently, Goodall (1995), Simon (1996), and the references therein, have discussed the merits of several large–sample systems of binomial intervals. Three of the systems considered these articles are the z-interval, a “t-based interval,” and a continuitycorrected interval,...
متن کاملInequalities for the polar derivative of a polynomial with $S$-fold zeros at the origin
Let $p(z)$ be a polynomial of degree $n$ and for a complex number $alpha$, let $D_{alpha}p(z)=np(z)+(alpha-z)p'(z)$ denote the polar derivative of the polynomial p(z) with respect to $alpha$. Dewan et al proved that if $p(z)$ has all its zeros in $|z| leq k, (kleq 1),$ with $s$-fold zeros at the origin then for every $alphainmathbb{C}$ with $|alpha|geq k$, begin{align*} max_{|z|=...

Applied Literature, however, does not have literature at its centre. Literature in this domain is a tool to solve problems and achieve goals. Using literature to teach and learn languages, the application of literature to language education, is a very handy example. Health Humanities (by Crawford, et al. and reviewed by A. Ramazani in our Journal's previous issue) comprises chapters on how lite...
